Visiting Moena in the summer

Ideas on what to do and see during the green week in Val di Fassa

How nice it is to be able to escape from the city when the summer heat arrives and take refuge in the green pastures of the Trentino mountains.

Excursions and trekking

With 2,240 km of itineraries, 1,252 km of paths, and 1,190 km of dirt roads, you will find a multitude of tracks for trekking in Val di Fassa, from easy walks in the valley to more challenging routes at high altitude.

Bike

There are many passes that surround the valley where Moena is set, like a small precious stone, offering plenty of ideas for cyclists as well as motorcycle enthusiasts.

Our hairpin bends are also the protagonists of the Val di Fassa Bike, one of the most important mountain bike events in Trentino.

If, on the other hand, you want to spend an enjoyable and pleasantly easy day’s ride, here you can find the Dolomites cycle path which connects Val di Fassa and Val di Fiemme for a distance of 47 km.

To make the experience even more enjoyable you can take advantage of the Fiemme-Fassa Bike Express, a free bus service (equipped with a trailer for equipment) that runs 4 days a week and eases your return to our hotel in Moena.

Other outdoor sports

You can also put yourself to the test in a number of other activities, such as rafting (between Masi di Cavalese and Molina di Fiemme), iron paths, rock climbing, Nordic walking, paragliding (with schools in Campitello di Fassa and Canazei) and everything and anything that requires a healthy contact with nature.

More relaxing ideas

If you prefer something more sedate and relaxing, you can try a horse ride from one of the stables between Moena, Vigo di Fassa and Predazzo (the latter, in early July, also holds 10 Equestrian Days, an important event for horse riding enthusiasts). Without forgetting the beautiful Carezza Golf Club, in the heart of the Dolomites.

Sport

Festivals and summer events

We certainly must mention the 26th June which is the feast of the patron saint, San Vigilio; the Turkey Festival, which takes place in the district of the same name on the first weekend after 15th August; the concerts of the Municipal Band of Moena; the “Moenarmonica” concerts; performances by our folkloristic groups and events included in the “Sounds of the Dolomites“.

A pleasant return to your hotel

After the healthy activities in the area, you will always be happy to return in the evening to the Sport Hotel San Vigilio, perhaps to immerse yourself in the outdoor Jacuzzi on the panoramic terrace, enjoying the panorama of the Monti Pallidi and the delightful enrosadira, a phenomenon that occurs at sunrise and sunset when the first or last rays of the sun tint the rocks of the Dolomites with the most intense shades from orange to purple.

Only here can you witness it, in the whole world and it has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Great bar scene

Dropped in here for a post-meal grappa and to catch the Monday night Serie A game on TV. Great atmosphere and big TV screens. Friendly bar staff who don’t pester you when you are watching the footie. The hotel looks pretty decent and there’s a nightclub downstairs.

Attention to detail in beautiful Moena

I should start by saying I was lucky – on a work trip, staying in a room on the fifth floor with a private balcony overlooking the river. But, it couldn’t have been nicer.

The room was well appointed – clean, a decent size, good shower and the aforementioned amazing balcony. My only criticisms are that there was no minibar and that the wifi signal didn’t reach my room, although I didn’t follow this up as it was not an issue for me. So it is possible the staff would be able to help.
